INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

In the frame of the SMES project ‘Dignity and Health’ Mental Health and Social Exclusion – SMES-EUROPA and Der PARITÄTISCHE Wohlfahrtsverband have the pleasure to invite you to participate at 9th SMES seminar.

From 11 European countries : Bucharest, Sofia, Warszawa, Riga, Prague <--> Brussels, Rome, Paris, Madrid, Copenhagen and Berlin, during the Dignity & Health Project, eleven partners exchanged the knowledge and information about local health, & social system, in relation with National Action Plan and visited a wide range of different activities, from street-level housing services to job training for the most vulnerable citizens of Europe (mentally ill, homeless people, migrants).

Aim
of the seminar is : exchanging the knowledge, the experiences and reflections about Dignity and Health of disadvantaged and excluded people and the facilities in Access to Social and Health ‘quality’s’ services.

Themes of the sessions:

A.  Humanism and mental health as the focus of all the seminar.
Criteria for individual and social existence: Having a place, possibility to make one’s voice heard, to be heard and be recognised. What means today to have a place in the society? How can this be substituted by silence and violence?

B.  Health & Social care in community :  Access for all to rights & services

How can the health system be efficient and take care of the major mental and wider health problems of those who ‘survive’ in permanent precarious conditions, whilst acknowledging their social condition?

C. Reflections from an antipsychiatric perspective: Users and Survivors of psychiatry express themselves, exchange views & compare: their place and their active involvement in society, the participation in programming & evaluating the services involvement & active participation of users and survivors   of  psychiatry in the process of integration of excluded people.
Users and Survivors of
the street, express themselves...

D.  Impact of NAP (National Action Plan for Inclusion):
Declaration of Lisbon 2000 : "...eradicating poverty & exclusion by 2010 "
What place is there for those not considered competitive, productive, consumers?
In 2005 : : 68 million European citizens are poor or at risk of poverty…
Today’s watchwords : competitiveness – productivity – consumption…. And for tomorrow?

Workshops:
The topics of the workshops will be treated in a general frame, that is given through the sessions themes: 5 workshops for the 3 Sessions (A-B-C)

1. Empowerment: regain of the own place & dignity, own right and warranty of access to services, at social as well as health level.

2.  Deinstitutionalisation : alternatives to “total” institutions at the social as well as psychiatric
level.

3. Participation – evaluation – control: the users and survivors of psychiatry, users and relatives associations participate at the decision processes regarding the programmes, the evaluation of the quality and efficiency of services.

4. Chronicity and outreach - at the street, in the institutions,  at home, at each place where persistence of poverty and sickness discourages from any request.

5.  Denied identity – illegal migrants:  dignity & health without borders; trauma -loss - mourning:
these are factors that make them associated to vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

Participation active : w
e welcome you also to be involved by sending – before the 20th June - ideas and suggestions to be discussed and during the workshops indicated in the webpage :
